If you are looking after a goldfish then yes it is easy but taking care of tropical fish is not easy at all. The aquarium fish tank are not easy to take care of and when people go on holiday it would seem that they struggle to find something to do with the pets. When taking care of fish when you are away on something like a vacation what on earth are you to do?

Family

Getting someone from the family to come in to take care of the tropical fish tank is most likely the best idea to take on because it is someone you trust and you can go through the various instructions with them. Although it is not too hard to feed fish it can be a bit tricky when it comes to reptile pet supplies as feeding these creatures could involved pulling legs off crickets and all kinds of other things.

Cleaning The Tank

You do not want to leave cleaning the tank to the person in charge so make sure you do it before you go. As a fish owner you will know just how important it is to actually clean out the tank properly and someone else coming into the house is likely to get something wrong. If a tropical tank and someone gets it wrong then it is going to result in deaths there is no doubt about that. It is such an essential thing to be taking care of before you go away.

Anything Else

If you do not have a friend or a family member that can take care of the fish for you then what do you do, not go on holiday? Of course not, there are services available that can do these kinds of things or perhaps you could pay a friendly neighbour to do it?

If you’ve got a cat you’ll know what a great pet a cat can be, for both children and adults. They’re quiet, easy to keep, cheap to feed and it’s just wonderful having a cat snuggling on your knee in the evenings. There is no doubt that cats can be a great pet.

But if you’ve just decided to get your first cat there’s something you may need to consider before you actually buy him. Because it certainly helps the human cat relationship if you can provide your cat with some simple things to keep him happy, like a cat tree and a scratching post.

A cat tree is a delight for cats. Cats love to climb and if you’ve watched a cat outside you’ll see how much they love to climb trees. But if your cat lives indoors he won’t have a tree to climb on. That’s where your cat tree comes in.

cat trees are simply a way of providing him with an artificial tree to climb on. They is manufactured in such a way that there are all sorts of nooks and crannies to him to investigate and lots of ways for him to climb. A cat tree is a strange looking device but cats love them, and they fulfill the natural urge of him to climb.

You can buy commercial cat trees or you can make one of your own. If you’re handy with a hammer and nails it’s perfectly possible to build a cat tree yourself. And if you enjoy building things you can have some fun trying to make his tree as innovative as possible.

One of the other things you need to think about if you’ve decided to get a pet cat is to give him or her something to scratch. Cats love to scratch and need to do so to keep their claws sharp. You may not want him to have sharp claws but he will do so anyway, and if you don’t provide him something to scratch then he’ll scratch the legs of your favourite piece of furniture instead. And probably lots of other pieces of furniture as well.

A cat tree scratching post is specifically designed for damage. It’s there so that your cat can tear it to pieces sharpening his claws. Because if he’s doing that he isn’t scratching the legs of your table.

Both items are designed to pamper him by catering for his instincts to climb and scratch. The cat with a good scratching post and climbing tree will be a happy cat.

Not all cats will immediately take to their cat tree however. In some cases you have to lead the cat to the tree and provide them with some encouragement to use it before they get the hint. To do so try playing with your new cat on the tree, perhaps with a few toys. You can suspend cat toys from branches of the tree to give him something to bat at. You can also leave a little catnip on the tree to attract him there. Or you could leave an old item of your clothing there for the same reason.

Without doubt a feline is a wonderful household pet, but you do need to cater to their natural instincts by providing them with a tree to play on and a post to scratch on. Do that and you will have a happy cat and a happy owner.

This is a surgical procedure where the claws, usually on the front legs only, are removed with part of the bones. It is expensive, it is extremely painful for the cat who needs to walk around on injured feet for a period of time whilst they are healing, and it also poses various risks to the cat.

Some of the most important things that cats do require claws. Your cat can’t play in trees if he can’t climb them. They use their claws when stretching, running and jumping and even digging in their litterbox.

And finally de-clawing your cat removes his most important weapon against dogs. Watch a cat defend himself against a dog and you will see he can very successfully do so using his claws. But not if he doesn’t have any.

There are some much cheaper and much less painful solutions to cat scratching than cat de-clawing. A cat scratching post can cost less than $20 and once you’ve trained him to use his scratching post your problem is over.

A cat scratching pole is a piece of dedicated cat furniture that is intended to provide him with a place to scratch where he can do all the damage he likes. Whilst it can sometimes take some effort to train him to use it there is no doubt that buying a scratching post and training him to use it is way less stressful and less expensive than serious surgery.

De-clawing is outlawed in some countries. It is a painful, expensive and unnecessary procedure, and the need for it can be obviated simply by buying and training your cat to use a proper cat scratching post.

Hermit crab molting happens very naturally as they grow larger. During this progression the hermit crab will shed the hard layer that covers the legs, claws and abdomen which is called the exoskeleton. As the new exoskeleton grows, the crab is extremely vulnerable. During this time, don’t be surprised if your crab buries himself in the sand or seems to not move for days at a time. This is why it’s important to have 3-4 inches of sand in your crabs home.

On average, you can expect the hermit crab molting process to take place about once every year or two. There are a few causes that will affect how frequently a crab will go through a molt. Younger hermit crabs tend to grow faster than older ones. Some species of crabs don’t molt as often as other species. Another factor is injury; if your hermit crab has lost a limb, the molting process may happen sooner as the limb re-grows.

There are many experienced hermit crab owners who can easily tell when a crab is about to enter into another molting stage. If your crab has a bigger appetite than normal this could be a sign. You may notice that your hermit crabs are less active during the first stage of the molt. Some pet owners have thought that their hermit crab was ill or maybe even dead. It is common for the eyes to turn cloudy, similar to the way cataracts looks.. Crabs will possibly begin to dig more frequently than they did before. The crab can be sustained during the molt by the sack of water that he carries inside his shell near his abdomen, you have to be really observant to notice it.

If you have only one hermit crab in the enclosure, leave him in the tank during the molting process. You might want to provide a separate isolation tank for the crab that is molting if you have a community of crabs. This is an area that many hermit crab owners find themselves arguing over. Some people think this isn’t needed and claim that your crab will feel better staying in a familiar environment. There are other people that argue that the crab must be protected from other crabs throughout this time. You don’t want to dig up your crab if he is already buried in the sand to begin the molting process.

Don’t handle your crab while he is molting. Remember to try not to remove the exoskeleton or give him a bath during this time, this is because you may cause irritation or infection. There is not a set time frame for the molting process as it can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a three months. You can expect your crab to be just as active as before once he resurfaces after the molting process is over. Don’t be shocked when your crab eats his old exoskeleton because it is high in calcium. As the molting process finishes your hermit crab will need extra calcium. Since the new exoskeleton is larger than the old one hermit crabs will move to a new shell that is large enough for them. You should make sure that your crab has several different shells to choose from after it has finished molting.
